  • Sri Lanka aims to achieve $18.2 billion in export revenue by 2025, with significant contributions from apparel, ICT, gems, and emerging sectors, supported by reforms, FDIs, and a digital economy initiative.

Sri Lanka's latest trade and export policy targets annual export revenue of US$ 18.2 billion by 2025, with merchandise exports increasing from US$ 12.7 billion to US$ 14 billion and service exports rising from US$ 3.5 billion to US$ 4.2 billion. Key sectors include apparel (US$ 5.2 billion), tea (US$ 1.4 billion), rubber (US$ 1 billion), and gems and jewellery (US$ 650 million). The ICT sector aims for US$ 1.7 billion in 2025, en route to US$ 5 billion by 2030, supported by tax reductions. Emerging sectors like boat manufacturing (US$ 200 million) and traditional exports such as seafood (US$ 300 million) and coconuts (US$ 800 million) contribute to the goal. Political stability, anti-corruption measures, FDIs, and streamlined processes under a digital economy initiative are expected to drive the government’s five-year export target of US$ 36 billion.
