Sri Lanka, with support from the World Bank, is set to restructure its $800 million water sector debt and access credit enhancement schemes to ensure new water projects are transparent, affordable, and aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6), according to Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Minister Jeevan Thondaman. This announcement coincides with President Ranil Wickremasinghe and other government representatives participating in the high-level session of the 10th World Water Summit in Bali, Indonesia.
Additionally, Thondaman revealed that Sri Lanka has become a founding member of the Global Blended Finance Alliance Initiative. Launched at the World Water Summit, this alliance aims to mobilize global capital to bridge the $2.5 trillion gap needed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and carbon neutrality by 2030.
