President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced that the maiden budget by the National People’s Power (NPP) will aim to involve every segment of the population in the country’s economic processes, extending the benefits of urban-centered activities to grassroots levels while ensuring equitable distribution across all provinces. Speaking at preliminary discussions with Ministry of Finance officials at the Presidential Secretariat, the President stressed the need for an efficient and productive economic system, prioritizing strengthened public transportation and optimized use of decentralised funds allocated to Members of Parliament (MPs). Highlighting deficiencies in existing welfare distribution mechanisms, he called for identifying genuinely deserving communities and expediting support delivery to ensure timely assistance.
