February 2025 Fuel Price Update: Fuel Prices Align with Formula for the First Time Since 2022

On 01 February 2025, the retail prices of 92-octane petrol and auto diesel remained unchanged at LKR 309 and LKR 286 per litre, respectively. Only the super diesel prices were increased from  LKR 313.00 to LKR 331.00.

Despite stable retail prices, the  Fuel Price Tracker formula indicated a price increase:

  1. 92-octane petrol (Formula Price): Rose from LKR 298.85 to LKR 307.53 per litre (+LKR 8.65).
  2. Auto diesel (Formula Price): Rose from LKR 270.01 to LKR 288.14 per litre (+LKR 18.13).

Because the market price for 92-octane petrol stayed at LKR 309 and auto diesel at LKR 286, the difference between market price and formula price has narrowed significantly:

  1. Petrol 92: Market price (LKR 309) vs. Formula price (LKR 307.53) → Difference: LKR 1.47
  2. Auto Diesel: Market price (LKR 286) vs. Formula price (LKR 288.14) → Difference: -LKR 2.14

These differences now fall below the 1.5% threshold used to assess alignment between retail and formula prices. This makes February 2025 the first month since 2022 where market prices are effectively in line with the formula, meaning the CPC is supplying fuel at cost-reflective prices—excluding any profit margin.

Note: The fuel formula calculation methodology was changed in January 2025. Refer Fuel Price Formula: Revised Methodology for more details. A 1.5% variation in the prices are usually allowed to the formula price as the actual premiums on the Singapore prices can vary at during each purchase.
