Sri Lanka Customs records Rs1tn revenue
  • Sri Lanka Customs achieved a record revenue of 1 trillion rupees so far this year, surpassing the previous high of 975 billion rupees in 2023.

Sri Lanka Customs, a key government revenue department, has achieved a record 1 trillion rupees in revenue so far this year, surpassing its previous high of 975 billion rupees in 2023. Director General Sarath Nonis expressed confidence in meeting the IMF revenue target of 1,534 billion rupees for 2024 within the next four months, despite a significant drop in revenue from car imports, which fell below 6% due to import restrictions. Nonis attributed the department's success to enhanced independence for officials, new operational methods, and advanced technical processes. Additionally, Sri Lanka Customs opened an internal affairs unit to investigate public complaints, following IMF findings that revealed 57.7 billion rupees in uncollected revenues were due from state agencies.
